Aboard the USS Wisconsin

Like a Dodo, I left my " big" cameras in the car.  All I had was this phone.

Excavating the turtle nest

Tonite the marine biologist and volunteers decided to excavate the sea turtle nest before tomorrow's storms over-washes the nest and drowns any surviving turtles.

At sunset, about 100 person including spectators, volunteers and the staff gathered and the volunteers began the delicate job of excavating the nest.  There hope was to find one or two live babies.  At last count they had found 26 live turtles and about one dozen "peekers."  Peekers are eggs where the turtle has begun to beck at the egg.  They have been placed in a tub with the live one in the hopes that the live one's activity will stimulate those to continue pecking at their shell.

After dark, the biologist will release all the babies very near the nest and send them on the 100 yard journey from the nest to the beach.

Many more photos which I'll try to form into a video.

Preying Mantis

Took this on my walk at the Y.  I was down on my knees trying to take this shot & two women stopped their car and asked, "Are you alright?"

Scott's photo of Jada and Sonia and the California Tunnel Tree

Giant pine cone is not from the Sequoia.  Their cones are small.

If you ever get to Yosemite, pay the money and take this tram.  You'll never regret it.  When you see a tree that is almost 3,000 years old it puts your life in perspective.
